NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Human rights groups on Wednesday warned anxious Kenyans over “rising levels of false or misleading information being shared on social media” as the country awaited results of a close presidential election. The electoral commission indicated it would be at least Thursday before a winner is declared.
Human rights bodies have raised an alarm over the continued release of false and misleading information by both the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio Coalition candidates and their supporters on the electoral process and the election results to the public.
Amnesty International Kenya, KICTANET, SDGs Kenya Forum and Fumbua Campaign have noted with great concern the rising levels of false or misleading information being shared on social media a day after the polls closed.
