We have lost a courageous fighter for justice in Mama Victor as we knew her. When others thought it was too risky to call for justice, she spoke out on their behalf. Many family members of victims found their courage to speak out in her presence. Her solidarity and optimism offered many the opportunity to heal and to continue pressing for justice for their fallen.

We named this meeting room the “Mama Victor Resilience Room” to honour Benna “Mama Victor” Buluma, a courageous leader and relentless advocate for families affected by police brutality. As the Convener of the Mothers of Victims and Survivors Network, she offered unwavering support to those devastated by extrajudicial killings, including her own tragic loss of two sons to police violence during the 2017 election protests. Despite her grief, Mama Victor dedicated her life to amplifying the voices of the bereaved, empowering families across Nairobi to demand justice. Her sudden passing during the 2024 Nairobi floods is a profound loss, yet her legacy endures as a beacon of resilience and hope. Through this room, we honour her memory and draw strength from her commitment to a world where justice prevails for all.
