Father John Anthony Kaiser

Father John Anthony Kaiser (1932–2000) was an American-born Roman Catholic priest and member of the Mill Hill Missionaries who dedicated over three decades of his life to missionary work in Kenya. Ordained in 1964, he initially served in the Diocese of Kisii for 20 years before ministering in the Dioceses of Nakuru and Ngong. Father Kaiser was renowned for his unwavering commitment to justice, often speaking out against human rights abuses and defending the oppressed. In the early 1990s, he worked tirelessly among internally displaced persons in Maela, Nakuru County, providing support to those affected by ethnic violence. His outspoken stance against injustice and advocacy for victims of political violence made him a prominent figure in Kenya’s human rights landscape. Tragically, on August 24, 2000, Father Kaiser’s life was cut short when he was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Naivasha, along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway. His death prompted widespread calls for justice and remains a significant moment in Kenya’s history of human rights activism.
