My father’s memory has been nurtured by [only] a few people .. this was a selfless man who had at his core, the desire for equality.

Linda Gama Pinto

We have named this room after Pio Gama Pinto, an Indian-born activist who became one of Kenya’s most revered pre and post-independence freedom fighters. Pinto’s unwavering commitment to justice and equality played a pivotal role in Kenya’s struggle for independence, as he championed the rights of all, regardless of race or background. Beyond independence, he continued to advocate for a fairer, more inclusive Kenya, tirelessly working to dismantle the inequalities left by colonial rule. Tragically, Pinto’s vision for a just society was cut short when he became the victim of Kenya’s first political assassination in 1965. This room stands as a tribute to his courage, resilience, and enduring legacy, reminding us of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of freedom and equality.
