End Hostilities in Israel and Gaza

Dear fellow human rights activists. We write with a heavy heart and a sense of urgency. The situation in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories has deteriorated dramatically in the past few days, leading to the death of over 2,000 (Palestinian and Israeli) people within days.

Palestinian armed groups based in the Gaza Strip have fired indiscriminate rockets and kidnapped Israeli civilians. Israel has conducted deliberate air strikes that have killed and injured Palestinian civilians, many of them children, in the Gaza Strip. Both actions constitute war crimes, violate international humanitarian and human rights law, and must be condemned.

The Kenyan Government and the international community must remain impartial, demand that all parties cease military hostilities, protect civilians, open corridors, and provide humanitarian and medical services for those affected. They must also support the ongoing International Criminal Court investigation into the deplorable situation in the State of Palestine.

Horrified by the indiscriminate targeting of civilians in Israel and Gaza, demand that the Government of Kenya and the international community impartially call for an immediate stop to military hostilities, protect civilians, open up safety corridors and provide humanitarian and medical services for those affected. Call on the international community to support the ongoing International Criminal Court investigation into the deplorable violation of human rights in the State of Palestine.
