This landmark index provides a detailed analysis of protest activity in Kenya between January 2020 and December 2025, including where protests occurred, key drivers of public demonstrations, leading organisers, and reported incidents of arrests, injuries, and deaths. The Index offers an evidence-based picture of civic space and the exercise of the right to protest in Kenya.
Developed by Odipo Dev and Amnesty International Kenya, the Kenya Freedom Index aims to strengthen public understanding and support informed dialogue on the protection of the right to peaceful assembly as guaranteed under Article 37 of the Constitution and international human rights standards.
