The election results are only the beginning—not the end. The leaders we elect make decisions that shape county plans, budgets, and essential services, including healthcare, education, water, and sanitation.
But how are these decisions made? Where and when can citizens influence them? And how can communities ensure that county plans and budgets respond to their priorities and advance human rights?
Join Amnesty International Kenya’s Movement Building Team for a Member Learning session on Influencing County Budgets to Advance Human Rights. The session will unpack the county planning and budgeting process and explore practical opportunities for citizens to participate in and influence these decisions.
What we will explore
Participants will learn about key entry points for citizen engagement, including:
- Elections;
- County Integrated Development Plans (CIDPs);
- Annual Development Plans (ADPs);
- County budgeting processes; and
- Public participation forums.
The session will also explore how communities can:
- Identify and advocate for their priorities to be included in county plans and budgets;
- Influence decisions on which programmes and projects receive funding;
- Participate meaningfully in public participation processes; and
- Hold county leaders accountable for implementing commitments and allocating resources in ways that advance human rights.
