#MembersKikao: Media freedoms and your right to know (Press Freedom Day)

Media Freedoms and Your Right to Know.

Welcome to our third #MembersKikao on media freedoms and your right to know to be held on 10th May 20235:00 PM to 6:30 PM, on Zoom.

Media freedom is a fundamental pillar of democracy, and your right to know is essential. It enables you to access accurate and timely information about matters that affect your life, ranging from politics and social issues to entertainment and culture. The media plays a critical role in holding those in power accountable and providing a platform for diverse voices and opinions. As a citizen, it is your right to access this information without censorship or bias. Thus, safeguarding media freedom and protecting your right to know is vital for a healthy and informed society.

World Press Freedom Day is significant because it highlights the importance of press freedom and the need to protect the rights of journalists and promote a free and independent media. It reminds us of the critical role that journalism plays in democratic societies and the importance of defending freedom of expression and the right to information. This year’s World Press Freedom Day Theme is: “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights”. Join us as we delve into this critical topic on freedom of the press.
