Every year, Amnesty International publishes a comprehensive report documenting the state of human rights, highlighting events and occurrences in 154 countries. The report sheds light on duty bearers’ failures to promote, protect, and observe human rights, emphasising their impact globally, regionally, and locally.
This year’s conference aims to bring together academics, civil society representatives, human rights defenders, government officials, and the public to discuss the human rights occurrences recorded in the 2023/2024 annual report, with a focus on the Kenya section. Topics for discussion include extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances. Freedom of expression and assembly; right to life, access to truth, justice, and reparations; minority persons rights; social, economic, and cultural rights. Women and girls’ rights, right to health and a healthy environment, right to privacy and the death penalty.
Our panel sessions will feature distinguished speakers who will provide insights and perspectives on these critical human rights issues. The first-panel session will discuss the international perspective on the state of human rights globally, with speakers including:
