Right to Safety and Dignity

We promote and protect civic space and civil and political rights through monitoring, research and strategic campaigning. Our thematic areas include the right to life, human dignity, fair trial, freedom from torture, freedom of expression, right to peaceful assembly, association, privacy and non-discrimination.
On the right to life, we campaign against unlawful policing and extra judicial killings specifically by supporting deeper community policing strategies; greater command and individual responsibility; as well as, closer and meaningful oversight of the national police service.
We advocate for the complete abolition of the death penalty in Kenya based on our global conviction that the death penalty is an unnecessary form of punishment with little value, and that it is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment that violates fundamental human rights.
Regarding the right to privacy, human dignity and data protection, we campaign for international human rights standards on handling of personal data by the state, corporations and private actors through policy interventions. For the past few years, our interventions and memoranda have powerfully shaped public awareness and influenced the State’s approach to data protection.
We also champion for the human rights of refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants by monitoring Kenya’s compliance to relevant international human rights conventions on refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

Fight injustice and help create a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.
