RIGHT TO HEALTH
Over 6,000 Kenyan women die annually from preventable maternal causes. The prevalence of human rights violations in health facilities often leads to the under utilization and boycott of maternal health services. It is a major contributor to these maternal deaths.
Amnesty International Kenya works with community groups in informal settlements to confront the root causes, manifestations and consequences of maternal health rights violations and take advantage of emerging opportunities to make access to maternal health services a reality for underprivileged Kenyan women. The Universal Health Coverage roll out presents us with an opportunity to ensure that Kenya’s maternal health system is human rights sensitive.
