Convene a freedom reading event

Anyone can host a book reading on the freedom writing of Micere Githae Mugo and Ngugi wa Thiong’o between 7-21 June. Universities, schools, social justice centres and community-based resource centres are especially urged to register their interest. All expressions of interest must be received by 24 May 2024

Amnesty International Kenya will give the first ten applicants who complete the application form a shelf of books and materials for their resource centre or library.

Those who are not successful may still be eligible to purchase the books of their choice. East African Education Publishers has graciously offered a large discount on the writers’ books with a discount code for you.

Hurry to register. We will send you the event package shortly after. It will include books, specially designed commemorative stickers and bookmarks, and a small logistical stipend. Amnesty sees this as an opportunity for organisations and activists to self-organise a celebration of Kenyan writers who wrote and spoke that we would be free.
