Since the elections earlier this month, Kenya has ramped up its intimidation tactics against the people and organizations working for human rights, in an attempt to silence them and stop their work. Without all of these groups and people, there would be no-one to defend people’s freedoms and rights in Kenya.
They are facing arrest and persecution, including attempts to have their accounts frozen, and being prevented from carrying out their work abroad. These threats will only get worst if we don’t act now.
The people and organizations that have come under attack to date are: George Kegoro, Executive Director of Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), Gladwell Otieno, Executive Director of African Center for Open Governance (AfriCOG), and Maina Kiai, former UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association and a member of AfriCOG’s Board of Directors.
Act now – we cannot let this post-election crackdown on peaceful protest and human rights become the new normal in Kenya. Email the Kenyan authorities demanding that they:
